Casa Heiwa Los Angeles, CA
This high-density mixed-use project, developed for the Little Tokyo Service Center and the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, contains affordable housing units, retail, offices, and a child care facility. Casa Heiwa was the first building in the City of Los Angeles designed as a Type III five-story wood frame structure. Previously limited to four stories, this breakthrough in wood frame construction allows the economical development of housing projects with densities of over 100 units per acre.
